Zjansiyoum Henok -Guud
Zjansiyoum Henok was born and raised in Addis Abeba in Ethiopia,
now based in Stockholm, Sweden. He is a very colourful and
emotional singer with his musical roots deep down in the
Ethiopian musical tradition, a tradition that he blends
with reggae and soul. The album is a perfect introduction
to Ethiopia’s multicoloured world of music that recently
has been noticed, for example in Jim Jarmusch’s movie
success “Broken flower”. Guud was produced by
Klas Jervfors. He has created a rich and colourful sound
image that really fits Zjansiyoum Henok’s voice. The
CD was recorded in the legendary, analogue studio RUB-A-DUB
in Stockholm.
Selam Africa Remix
Selam Africa Remix contains 16 tracks with music from countries
such as Nigeria, Mali, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Senegal,
Cap Verde, Congo, Tanzania and Ethiopia. The compilation
includes both lounge tracks and dance oriented tracks. The
album is compiled and produced by Niclas Lindblad aKa djnico.
It’s impossible to squeeze in the wide range of ethnic,
cultural and musical diversity that is significant to the
African continent, into one single album. Nevertheless,
there are some shared forms of musical expressions as well
as new musical trends across the African continent. This
compilation gives the listener a brief musical overview
representing contemporary music from Africa; ranging from
more traditional sounds to a mix of hiphop, reggae and club
music fused with local elements. The one and only reason
for the selected songs being represented on the album is
the fact that they are simply damn good songs!
Selam Sounds.
Teshome Wondimu, founder and director of Selam Sounds says,
“I’ve had this idea for a long time and I’ve
seen a great need for an independent record label in Sweden
that concentrate on high qualitative world music”.
“We have many talented musicians here in Sweden with
their musical roots in many different cultures that don’t
seem to attract the attention from the major record company’s.
My goal is to fill this vacuum!”
The CD will first be released in Ethiopia where a new distribution
company, named Stockholm Beat, is established by Teshome.
“Selam Sounds is a long term project and we have the
experience and knowledge needed in order to successfully
implement rational music productions to a low cost with
Sweden as base” Teshome concludes.
